Richmond is nestled in the charming section of Southeast Portland and is bordered by the Hosfor-Abernethy, Sunnyside, Mt. Tabor, South Tabor, and Creston-Kenilworth neighborhoods. The northern end of Richmond is located within the popular Hawthorne district. The neighborhood, which contains quiet residential areas, fun shopping, and vibrant art districts, is perfectly poised to become, over the next several years, one of Portland’s most popular communities.
The up-and-coming nature of Richmond is reflected in its lower housing prices and relatively young population, who bring with them creativity and new businesses. Founded in 1968, the Richmond Neighborhood Coalition is one of the most active in Portland city limits, constantly working on new community projects. The vast majority of homes in Richmond were built before 1939, providing for a beautiful walk, bike, or drive.
The Richmond neighborhood is in walking distance to many of the local attractions. As a part of the Hawthorne district, neighbors get to enjoy some of the best local food, brunch destinations, and shops Portland has to offer. Residents have the luxury of a quick stroll down Division Street to the nearby taprooms, taverns, restaurants and shops to satisfy all their essential needs throughout the week.
Sewallcrest Park is the perfect escape from one’s busy life right in the neighborhood. It is filled with great amenities including an off-leash dog area, paved pathways, sporting fields, and a playground. The Ivon Community Garden is another way for neighbors to socialize while being active outdoors.
