Clackamas


Clackamas County was named after the Clackamas Indians. Since the county's creation, agriculture, timber, manufacturing and commerce have been the principal economic activities. Originally named Clackamas District, it was one of the four original Oregon districts created in 1843, along with Twality (now Washington), Champooick (now Marion) and Yamhill. The four districts were re-designated as counties in 1845. The city of Clackamas is located within Clackamas County.

Barton Park is considered by some to be the best site on the mid-Clackamas River for fishing, where steelhead, trout or salmon could be the highlight of your camping feast. There are also facilities available for softball, volleyball and horseshoes, and the playground will keep youngsters entertained for hours. Rafting is also very popular and the river is exceptionally beautiful with rapids that are mild enough for rafters of all abilities.
